Located in northwest Shenzhen, Bao'an is at the geographical center of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA). It sits at the intersection of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong north-south development axis and the Shenzhen-Zhongshan east-west development axis. Bao'an covers an area of 397 square kilometers, with a population exceeding 5.3 million and 886,000 registered business entities.

Bao'an is known as the "heart" of the GBA's "one-hour traffic circle," serving as a vital transportation hub. It integrates multiple modes of transport, including aviation, maritime, highways, high-speed rail, intercity transit, and subways. In 2022, Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport handled over 21.56 million passengers and processed 1.5 million tons of cargo and mail. The airport operates more than 60 international routes, connecting nearly 200 domestic and international destinations. In 2023, it was recognized as the World’s Most Improved Airport. Additionally, the Port of Dachan Bay now operates 22 international shipping routes with an annual throughput of 200 million TEUs. Bao'an is also home to the Shenzhen World Exhibition & Convention Center, the largest of its kind globally.

Services for Hong Kong and Macao

Bao'an prioritizes cooperation with Hong Kong and Macao in industries such as finance, cultural creativity, technology services, and exhibitions. The district actively implements innovative policies in areas like trade facilitation, financial openness, bonded trade, talent management, and technological innovation. Bao'an aims to establish flexible and efficient cooperation mechanisms with Hong Kong and Macao, engaging in international economic and trade activities. It is also developing a youth innovation and entrepreneurship base for Hong Kong and Macao, alongside an international talent port within the GBA, positioning itself as the preferred gateway for Hong Kong enterprises entering the mainland market.

International Cooperation

Bao'an places strong emphasis on foreign trade and economic collaboration. In recent years, the district has successfully hosted economic, trade, and cultural exchanges with 36 countries, including the U.K., Germany, France, Russia, the U.S., Canada, Australia, Israel, India, Singapore, Japan, South Korea, and others. Bao'an has also fostered a friendly city partnership with Avignon, France.
